Business Website Checklist: 10 Things Every Website Needs

Published July 21, 2026 · Site Mints Team

Whether you're building a website yourself or reviewing one a developer just handed you, this is the practical checklist we use internally. No jargon, just the things that actually matter for a small business site.

The essential building blocks of a page that converts visitors into enquiries

1. Mobile-Friendly by Default

More than half of visitors will be on a phone. If the site isn't clean and readable on mobile, you're losing them in the first five seconds.

2. Clear Statement of What You Do - Above the Fold

A visitor should understand what your business does within seconds of landing on the homepage, without scrolling.

3. A Working Contact Method, Visible on Every Page

Phone number, WhatsApp button, or contact form - visible in the header or a fixed position, not buried on a separate page.

4. Real Photos, Not Generic Stock Images

Photos of your actual shop, product or team build far more trust than generic stock photography, even if they're not professionally shot.

5. Clear Pricing or a Clear Path to Get Pricing

You don't have to publish exact numbers if your pricing varies, but visitors should know roughly what to expect or how to quickly get a quote - not have to hunt for it.

6. Fast Loading

Large, uncompressed images are the most common cause of a slow site. A site that takes more than a few seconds to load loses visitors before they see anything.

7. A Domain You Own

Your website should live on your own domain (yourbusiness.com), not a free subdomain - it looks more credible and it's an asset you control.

8. Basic SEO Setup

A proper page title, meta description, and your business name/location mentioned in the text - this is what lets Google understand and show your site to relevant searches.

9. Social Proof, If You Have It

Client logos, certifications, years in business, or genuine reviews - anything that shows you're an established, trustworthy business.

10. One Clear Call-to-Action

Every page should make it obvious what you want the visitor to do next - call, message on WhatsApp, or fill a form. A site with no clear next step just leaves visitors to leave.

Checking Your Own Site Against This List

If your current website is missing several of these, it's usually a sign of a rushed or outdated build rather than anything fundamentally wrong with having a website. See our website packages to see what a properly built site includes by default.
